My dad was both a graphic artist as well as a conventional artist.  He also had many, many other skills as well.

After dad got out of the Navy he went into graphic arts and photoengraving.  He owned his own business  called CL&R Engraving Company.

Before computers they had to do everything by hand.  He used cameras that were 25 feet long and could hold a piece of film 20" inches by 24" inches.  It was all labor intensive.  Guess you could say he was the middle man in between the advertisers and the printers of those days.
  .
He loved photography, and mom wrote articles for magazines such as Organic Gardening, Farmer's Stockman, and many, many more publications.  Here is a photo of mom and dad on the cover of Organic Gardening magazine.  Hey, I even had my picture in some of those magazines when I was a kid.

We raised gardens every year and ate well from the freezers after each harvest.  In between working, farming, and photography for agricultural publications he managed to draw, paint, and sketch.

Here is a little bit of some of his artwork below.  Enjoy and please tell a friend about his artwork.  Thank you.

A Bit about my Dad:

The Adventures of Kim Laine is a Flash Gorden style comic / manga that my dad drew back in the early 1960's.  My name is Kim Laine Rozell, so naturally he named it after me. Pretty cool I think.

It is written and designed with true 1940's and 1950's style sci-fi comics of that eara. Click on the "Comic Strip" icon and enjoy over 200 frames of this tale from yester-year.

The Jungle King features over 3,300 brush strokes making up just the grass on the ground.  This drawing thousands of brush strokes over all.  In the original, when you get up close you can see the lines in the iris of the eyes.

Dad won first prize in the Smith County Fair for this drawing back in the 1960's.

Tian the Primitive
Tian the Primitive, another drawing dad did that won first prize in the Smith County Fair for this drawing back in the 1960's.

You will notice that Tian first appeared in his comic strip The Adventures of Kim Laine, which is featured here on this website.

Dad also created a comic strip about Tian.  I plan to add this comic / manga to this website a little later on.

This was one of my dad's favorite movies of all time.   Bought the DVD and played it two or three times a year along with Shane.

About this time his artistic skills were still with him, but with age his skills began to wane.  He drew this when he was 92 years old.

.

Pray to The Sky Gods

Pray to the Sky Gods was my dad's last drawing at age 93.  He still had his skills, but said that he was going to retire from drawing.... his one great passion.  He cried as he finished this drawing for he knew it would be his last.  He never drew again.

Having served in the Navy during the Second World War, WWII, and at the war's end, President Harry Truman sent this letter to my dad in recognition for his service to his country.
